THE LEGEND
OF POKEY JOE
Pokey Joe was the
greatest card player
in the West!
He was successful because of his “Face of Stone”. Nobody could tell when he was bluffing.
In 1875 the wealthy Mayor of Cincinnati, Squire Bolton, lost 10 straight card games to Pokey Joe in front of a large crowd. He was so humiliated he offered $10,000 to anyone who could beat Pokey Joe at cards. Try as they might they never did!
Pokey Joe was so inundated with challengers that he had to work out a way to play quicker. So he invented a new card game that enabled him to play as many games as possible, in as many places as possible, with as many people as possible. He called the game after himself.
